SANTIAGO, Cuba, Dec 17 (ACN) Ecuador’s foreign minister Ricardo Patino visited this Eastern city on Sunday and expressed his country’s willingness to support the local housing program for victims of hurricane Sandy, which ravage the territory in October.

The Ecuadoran government official was accompanied by Urban Planning and Housing minister Pedro Jaramillo, Finance minister Patricio Rivera, and ambassador to Cuba Edgar Ponce.

The delegation, which also included Cuban Construction minister Rene Mesa and local government and Communist Party officials, toured areas with favorable conditions to raise 226 new homes.

In a press conference, Ricardo Patino said he brought a message of solidarity from President Rafael Correa for the victims of hurricane Sandy and noted that Ecuador’s support of recovery actions in Santiago is a gesture of gratefulness to Cuba for its assistance of Latin American nations in sectors such as health and education.

Some 15 zones have been identified in Santiago de Cuba to raise new homes, which will be part of the construction program aimed at benefiting the victims of the hurricane.
